Business Gas

Gas contracts for commercial premises are arranged much like electricity agreements, but consumption is far more seasonal. A site that uses a great deal of gas between October and March will be priced differently from one with a steady year-round demand, even when annual totals look similar.

We help businesses understand what their usage profile means for the options available, review the terms of each contract on offer, and keep renewals on schedule so a site is not left on out-of-contract rates.

Seasonal usage considered

We look at when you use gas, not just how much.

Renewal timing

Diary dates agreed so notice periods are never missed.

Honest comparisons

We explain what is and is not included in each quote.

Reading a commercial gas quotation

Gas is billed in kilowatt hours, with the meter reading converted from cubic metres or cubic feet depending on the meter fitted. A quotation will normally show a unit rate, a standing charge and, for larger sites, a charge relating to the capacity of the supply.

The unit rate often steps down as consumption rises, so the price paid per unit can change across the year rather than staying flat. This is one reason a comparison based on a single average figure can be misleading, particularly for premises with heavy winter demand.

  • Unit rates may be tiered, so the effective price depends on total annual consumption.
  • Standing charges are fixed and apply whether or not gas is used.
  • Some contracts also carry a charge linked to the site's nominated capacity.

Sites we commonly help

Gas requirements vary widely between premises. The information needed to compare options differs too, particularly where gas is used for manufacturing processes rather than heating.

  • Restaurants, cafes and commercial kitchens with heavy daily use.
  • Care homes, hotels and guest houses with year-round heating and hot water.
  • Offices and retail units with moderate seasonal heating.
  • Warehouses and workshops where heating is often localised.
  • Manufacturing and processing sites with a continuous gas requirement.

Renewals, notices and changes of tenancy

Most commercial gas contracts require notice before the end date, and the notice window is often much longer than businesses expect. Missing it commonly results in the site continuing on rates that were never negotiated.

If you are taking on new premises, the gas supply may need a change of tenancy before it can be transferred into your name. We can explain the sequence of steps and what information is required for each.

Who we help with business gas

Commercial gas supply is available to a wide range of premises, subject to supplier criteria.

  • Restaurants, takeaways and commercial kitchens
  • Hotels, guest houses and care settings
  • Retail units and offices
  • Warehouses, depots and workshops
  • Light industrial and processing sites
  • Multi-site operators consolidating renewals

Eligibility and what to expect

Commercial gas quotations depend on supplier approval and accurate consumption data. Where a site has an unusual usage pattern or a legacy meter arrangement, we will explain what additional information is likely to be requested before a quote can be prepared.
